Completely NEW programs for 2017!

The goal of Running Central, the Illinois Valley Striders, and ShaZam Racing is to continue to push ourselves to provide the highest quality of training programs for the whole community. Consequently, we are excited to introduce our entirely revamped training program platform for 2017!!!!

This NEW robust series of training programs provide quality and relevant coaching in order to nurture, support, and inspire people of all ages and abilities to improve their overall health and wellness. That is why we are broadening the scope and increasing the number and frequency of training programs. Consequently, these programs will be more relevant and specific to your individual goals and personal availability.

This series of training programs is designed to provide participants with a systematic series of programs. Having a systematic and progressive program structure will provide participants a chance to “graduate” to the next level of training in order to accomplish new and exciting goals!  Therefore, we are offering the community a 4-Tier training platform that cycles throughout the year.

4-Tier Training Platform

  • [Winter Base Training – See below for details ]
  • NO More Excuses 5k Training

This 10-week program is to help people get started on the right foot. It begins as a walking program and progresses into a run-walk and then run program. This true beginner program is for people of ALL ages who are getting started in their health and fitness journey and are starting from square one.

  • RC Training 5k/10k Training

This 12 week program is for people who can currently run/jog 30 minutes non-stop and would like to improve their fitness and conditioning. This is a program that can also be geared toward bettering your 5k-10k performances.

  • RC Training for ½ Marathon & Marathon

This 14 week program is for people who are currently running ~15 – 20+ miles per week and would like to run their first ½ or full marathon OR for those who are looking to improve upon their current ½ or full marathon times.

  • BDI (Blair-Dog International) Training

This program focuses on heart-rate training and is contracted on a month-to-month basis. It is for dedicated and self-motivated (not to be confused with “talented,” “gifted,” or “pace per mile”) runners who are currently running 20+ miles per week and are looking to push themselves to their highest potential.

*Please note that NONE of these programs have minimums for ability or pace-per-mile.  These programs are inclusive to ALL people, ALL ages, ALL ability levels provided you have the appropriate base line fitness (ie, for the 5K/10K training, you are able to continually run for 30 minutes non-stop)  to begin the program.

Community

To complement these training programs, the Illinois Valley Striders will be hosting:

  • FREE community runs and social gatherings EVERY Wednesday night beginning Feb 15th.*

Additionally, Running Central will be providing:

  •  FREE Saturday long runs to the community EVERY Saturday throughout the year starting on February 18th.**

2017 RC Training Program Details

Winter Base Training

This 10 week training program is for those individuals who are looking for a structured program to help them jump start their training for the year. It is for individuals we have some experience with running and desire to build their regular mileage.

  • Participants are given a weekly schedule from the coach
  • Participants meet once per week (Tuesdays) with the coach of the program for a structured work-out
  • Participants communicate directly with the coach
  • Cost of the program is $75
  • PERKS of the program:
    • 10 week training schedule
    • Experienced coaching, accountability, feedback, and a great social network to build friends and training buddies
    • 15% discount on all regular priced and in-stock items at Running Central for the duration of the program

No More Excuses 5k – THIS IS A BEGINNER PROGRAM!!!!

This 10 week program is for individuals who are looking to get started in the sport of running – this is a program for people who are starting from 0 miles per week. It begins as a walking program with brief and structured periods of running/jogging to build “continuous time on feet”.   From there, it progresses into a run-walk, and finally a continuous running program. This true beginner program is for people of ALL ages who are getting started in their health and fitness journey and are starting from square one.

*Please note this program is for ALL ages and for people who are looking for the coaching and support to begin their fitness journey.  This program is also fully inclusive to ALL people regardless of any physical or cognitive disabilities.  This program is PERFECT for previous and potential participants of Access Steam.

Participants will receive:

  • Participants are given a weekly schedule from the coach
  • Participants meet once per week with the coach of the program for a structured work-out
  • Participants communicate directly with the coach
  • Cost of the program is $250
  • PERKS of the program
    • 10 week training schedule
    • $125 toward one pair of shoes, at the beginning of the program, at Running Central***
    • $25 in total toward reflective/light product(s) at Running Central***
    • Experienced coaching, accountability, feedback, and a great social network to build friends and training buddies
    • 15% discount on all regular priced and in-stock items at Running Central for the duration of the program

***Getting fit for shoes at Running Central and reflective product is mandatory

  • Cost of the program is $100

This 14 week training program is to help participants complete and finish a ½ or full marathon.  Participants attending this program should be currently running 15 miles per week.

*Note: This program will also help anyone training for a 15k!

  • Participants meet twice per week with the coach of the program for a structured work-out
  • Participants communicate directly with the coach
  • Cost of the program is $125

BDI Training

This program is for “dedicated” and “goal-oriented” runners.  “Dedicated” and “goal-oriented” has nothing to do with age, ability, or pace.  It is for people who are there to follow the workouts to a  “T” with the desire to improve their fitness and performance.

  • Schedules are provided by Greg White and Blair Gorsuch directly to the participants
  • Participants do these work-outs on their own (or with a group who they coordinate)
  • Coaches will come to the work-outs from time-to-time
  • Participants communicate directly with Greg and Blair
  • Participants pay a monthly fee for their schedules
  • PERKS of the program
    • Monthly personalized training schedule
    • 15% discount on all regular priced and in-stock items at Running Central during the length of the program
