Running for a Cause at Detweiller

The seventh annual Detweiller At Dark was a big hit with the local running community, and allows runners to gauge where their fitness levels are during the summer at Detweiller Park. “It’s a great time to come out with friends and see competitively where we are and to push each other,” Patrik Elkins said. Over 1,200 people ran at the Detweiller at Dark this year. They aren’t only running for the fun of it, they are also running to raise money for diabetes. “This event is a rock concert, a party, above and beyond everything else though, it is an event to raise money to support diabetes research,” Tricia Potts said.

Runners from near and far light up Detweiller at Dark

The state cross country course featured concert-grade lighting and sound for fans and racers alike.  “It’s a community event,” said race director Adam White. “People don’t have to be racing or know anyone racing to have a good time, and it doesn’t cost anything to do it.” The were five races — an open co-ed race and boys and girls junior high and senior high races — that featured more than 1,200 runners from all over the Midwest.
