Cinco de Kilo 5k

It’s Cinco de Mayo! Over 400 runners and walkers showed up at the Peoria Riverfront Trail Friday to participate in the Cinco de Kilo.

This event is a 5k run or walk race hosted by Shazam racing.

After the race was over, people celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a fiesta, where they had food, salsa dancing lessons and some good Mexican food and drinks.

“The holidays are a good time to get people out and it’s a Friday night so it’s a good way to start your night off, get a little exercise in before you go out and it’s just a fun time with the holidays. It gives people a way to celebrate and incorporate some running.” says Katie Davis.

The winners of the race didn’t go home empty handed. The top three runners of each age group received handmade maracas.
